Transitional style kitchens are a mixture of Traditional and Contemporary elements. The best are a masterfully designed kitchen combining both styles in very controlled doses. They are relatively uncluttered but exude more warmth and elegance than Contemporary kitchens. Transitional kitchens often use a little more elegantly styled hardware, lighting fixtures, etc. and more Contemporary colors and textures. Transitional kitchens can combine Contemporary and Traditional elements in so many interesting ways they are basically whatever you want them to be. Traditional kitchens are somewhat less formal today than in years past. Shaker style cabinetry is a favorite here as well as in the more Contemporary kitchens although often with a beveled edge.
